Store Update

Items in the Store
Finally, the CafePress store is very close to the design of my blog. Okay, maybe not, but at least when you visit it, you can tell that it belongs to this site.

My next project for this site is to fix mometek.com. I don't think I will be able to do that until Friday since I have another site to work on.

I've also added more journals if you are interested. I will be buying a few for myself and the kids. Two of them want one for drawing. Since one of the options happens to be blank pages, they'll have their drawing journals.

I do have a lot more planned for MOMETEK. Like the MOMETEK Facebook page, subscribe to MOMETEK YouTube channel (soon!), and for updates for more than just MOMETEK, follow me on Twitter.

Mother's Day Is Almost here!

Yes, this is an ad for my Cafepress store but you have to check it out. In a little over a week, it will be Mother's day. Are you ready?

Or, if you already have a gift, you might want to consider buying a little something for yourself. New items added once a week!

New Store Banner

An image with a bag, journal, and steel travel mug.

I had neglected my old banner for too long. It's time for a change. In the next two posts, I will be talking about Cafepress and my Store.

I was going to try something else. However, I already have a Cafepress store, so I'm going to continue to use it. I may open another store on another similar site, but it's likely I'll probably use it for items I cannot sell on Cafepress.

So if you are interested, I have a design line for Mometek (pictured left) as well as some Journal designs that I have been working on.

There is one cover design that my daughter did. She asked to try it, so I let her and I put her name on it.

I will be adding more items once a week. Be sure to check back often.

Making a Website for Profit! Part Two

Part One | Part Two | Part Three

In my last post, I opened an account on strikingly and started a website. However, it's far from finished. I added two links to two stores. One for my Astore and one for my Cafepress Store.

It's the two ways you can make money off you blog or website. I have to say, though, the market is so saturated logo mugs, it's difficult to sell any... Unless, you get a lot of visitors and a really awesome logo that everyone will want.

Can you make money on Cafepress? Well, I haven't, but to be fair, I may post to this blog maybe a few times a month. Even the most popular bloggers seem to think this is a bad idea. There may be a few who can get away with it as they may be popular by other means, like an author or celebrity.

It looks pretty grim if you do a search online. It's true that Cafepress's base price is a bit high, which is why you don't see T-Shirts in my store. That said, I may put some on in the future. Some sites I came across said that they do make money off the product.

We will see.

That said, I'm going to actually put some effort into it, one last time. Then I will post my efforts and results in another post. Yeah, this is definitely another post for later.

Then there's the AStore. This one has a little more potential. Again, I hadn't made the effort on this blog, so I haven't made much. I'm not even sure if anyone buys something in these stores or they later check it out on the Amazon store itself.

That said, I had put stores on the site. Both are easy to set up and if there is a way to make money off these two stores, I will find out. The stores I will be promoting will be on this site.

As for the website I've been working on, it's just a demo site to show what available resources there are to start a business at home, possibly to even make a passive income.

As for the Website, I will still be tweaking it and posting my efforts. More posts to come.

More On CafePress

Okay, so I've been working on CafePress for the last couple of days. I think I would have been done sooner, but a few unrelated problems came up. Which I've been ranting about on Google plus lately.

CafePress has changed their pricing structure. This was a good change. Instead of having a free version vs a paid version, it's the same store with different ways of paying. The "no upfront costs" version is essentially free if you don't sell anything, but if you do sell something, they make a percentage of your profits.

If you make more than $50 (as what their site states), you might want to go with the monthly payment option, in which you pay a monthly fee instead of a percentage. It's cheaper to pay yearly, of course.

They have added more products making their selection quite large. Besides T-shirts, mugs and maybe a few bags, they've added some Waterbottles, thermoses, baby products and a lot more clothing. I don't know how many products I may be adding, but it's like a kid in a candy shop: exciting and overwhelming.

Their new pricing structure had brought down the base price on a lot of items, but to be competitive, some items you only can make pennies on. The Journal I have set up is only marked up about 50 cents to remain competitive, but the KOR Water bottle, at least on CafePress, competitive means I make a little more.

This is probably the easiest way to make money online. At least, there's no upfront costs. So you can still start a blog, and sell items without having any cash onhand... I think.

I have yet to sell anything. Next post: Attracting customers (or something like that).

Using CafePress

CafePress Dashboard Header
I've opened a CafePress shop. I've tried them in the past and until I started to add things to my store, I had forgotten why I stopped.

CafePress is a bit expensive for just promotional products, especially when a lot of this is given away by companies for free. Just look at this clasp wallet. Believe me, there's not much markup here. The Beach bag isn't too bad, but still, we got a similar thing from PEPSICO when Mike got his job... For free... AND it's well made.

I'm probably better off spending $100 up front and buying a case of promotional items from Athens Screen printing (a local business), then sell it. If you can buy the case, the profit margins are much larger.

I don't have $100.

I guess I'll have to get my creative on and work on some images. Or, I'll just hire my girls and have them come up with something. The only way I can justify some of the prices is to have killer artwork.

The good news is that CafePress has changed their pricing structure. I can now have more than one item sporting different "masterpieces".  That's good, since I do have some ideas for the Journals (not available yet).

I still have a lot to with the design of the shop. At the time of this post, I just have the standard template up. In a few days, it should look more like this blog.
